Finding Fela tells the story of Fela Anikulapo Kuti's life, his music, his social and political importance, and also of the Broadway musical based on his life. Fela created a new musical movement, Afrobeat, using that forum to express his revolutionary political opinions against the dictatorial Nigerian government of the 1970's and 1980's. The documentary melds performances from Fela! The Musical, interviews with Fela's contemporaries and numerous live performances by Fela and by the cast of the Broadway musical.
