This little book presents 48 of 164 known species of what is considered the flowers of Svalbard. Because of the short growth period these flowers have a very brief but full life span. Some plants begin to grow while the snow is melting, striving for existence in this barren land and amazingly bursting into beautiful bloom.
Of the remainder of the species, most are grasses and sedges and therefore not so obvious or remarkable.
