After watching the series and being somewhat obsessed with how good it was, I quickly realised I needed to seek out the book. I borrowed it from my local library and it only took me five days to complete. A truly gripping read, and a solid supplement to the series because you get served details such as the characters' inner monologues.
It's a story about finding your way as a young adult, relevant to both boys and girls (and probably everyone else as well). What does it mean to be a good person? Does a good person do bad things without meaning to? How does this affect the people that they love? What do you do when someone you know is weaponising sex in their relationship, or suffering as a result of their partner doing so? Are you the one weaponising sex? How do you provide genuine support to the ones that you love? Are you a good friend? How do all these things affect, or fail to affect, your sense of self worth?
All these questions and more are pondered upon and experienced by the two highly sympathetic main characters. The connection they have is truly remarkable and you find yourself hoping that they can figure things out together. Just like you would in real life, I hope...
